REHACARE INTERNATIONAL, Düsseldorf International Trade Fair for Rehabilitation and Care Set to Showcase Industry’s Best from 6th . 9th October 2010

From 6th to 9th October 2010, the international rehabilitation and care market will once again convene for the biggest trade fair event in their calendar, the REHACARE INTERNATIONAL in Düsseldorf. Around 750 exhibitors from 29 countries will provide a comprehensive overview of the aids and services required by people with special needs, in need of care and the chronically ill to make their daily lives easier. 30,000 square metres of exhibition space in Halls 3-6, 7 and 7a have been leased to exhibitors. “The REHACARE 2010 will showcase a range of products comparable to that presented in 2008. Judging by the current number of registrations received, it will effortlessly achieve the high standard of that event”, says Joachim Schäfer, CEO of the Messe Düsseldorf. “One in three exhibitors is coming from abroad, with Denmark, France, Great Britain, Taiwan and the USA being represented in Düsseldorf by large joint presentations.“

The REHACARE provides solutions for almost every type of disability and for all areas of life, including mobility aids, aids for daily living, assistive equipment for nursing and home care, communications technology, living spaces, ideas for leisure, travel and sports.

The range of mobility products available leaves nothing to be desired, running the gamut from walking aids and powerful, modern mobility scooters right through to wheelchairs for everyday, leisure and sporting activities. All the industry’s top names and products will be represented in Düsseldorf with around 200 exhibitors providing buyers, trade visitors from rehabilitation and care, and people with disabilities and their families with a comprehensive overview of innovations and advancements in this field.

Disabled drivers should also look out for innovations. The automotive industry will be showcasing its latest adapted cars in Hall 6, where they will be joined by specialist providers of highly-customised features and adaptations.

This year’s show devotes a great deal of space to the issue of living environments. A model home in the “Wohn(t)raum” theme park (“Barrier-Free Living at its Best”) exhibition in Hall 3 will demonstrate ways in which living spaces can be rendered largely barrier-free or altered using conventional equipment and modern technology to make them more comfortable or suitable for the elderly. Barrier-free building and living tips and information will also be available from the booth run by the GGT Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gerontotechnik, a company from Iserlohn, Germany, which is represented by numerous partner companies.

REHACARE 2010 will also feature a new special display on the topic of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). This term is used to describe concepts, technical products and services which either eliminate the need for older, single people to perform everyday tasks or which make them easier to perform. Around 20 exhibitors from research, politics and the housing industry, all of whom have also played a large part in shaping the REHACARE Congress, will enhance their presentations in this joint showcase with practical tips and innovative products.

Hall 4 will be devoted to the needs of children with disabilities and their families. All exhibitors providing innovative assistive technology for children will be exhibiting in this hall, as will the Aktion Mensch organisation. This organisation will be running the popular “Kids World” exhibition, which provides young REHACARE visitors with the opportunity to take part in games and sporting activities.

Communications technology for people with specific disabilities, such as visual, hearing or speech impairments, will be exhibited in a separate exhibition area in Hall 5, while a large area in Hall 6 will be devoted to resources for disabled travellers.

As well as presenting technical innovations and advancements, this year’s REHACARE will once again be strongly focused on exchanging ideas and information. A great deal of attention will therefore be given to the discussion on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The third REHACARE Congress in the “Wohn(t) raum” (“Barrier-Free Living at its Best”) series will take place on 6th and 7th October 2010 and will be dedicated to the topic “Selbstbestimmt Wohnen und Pflegen zu Hause – Von der Vision zur Realität!” (“Self-determined Living and In-Home Care – From Vision to Reality!”). The Congress will put advancements in in-home care, appropriate living spaces for older people and technical assistance systems through their paces in an interdisciplinary exchange of information and experiences featuring experts from science and the social and housing sectors.

Visitors can enjoy seven independent series of lectures featuring a total of 65 presentations and podium discussions. Topics presented include alternative styles of living and caregiving, building and living concepts, and advice for those caring for relatives. The presentations will also demonstrate technical products and services which increase living comfort and safety or which make caregiving easier.

In Hall 3, the theme park “Treffpunkt Gehirn” (“A Life Torn Apart”) provides information and presentations specifically tailored to the needs of those who have suffered brain injuries, strokes and cerebral damage, while the “Behinderte Menschen und Beruf“ (“The Disabled at Work”) centre provides information and advice on prevention, workplace integration management, and disabled-accessible workplace design.

Once again, this year’s REHACARE devotes an entire exhibition hall to sports for the disabled. The sports centre in Hall 7a (the only one of its kind in the world) will showcase the diverse opportunities available for disabled and chronically ill people to participate in sporting activities.

And, last but not least: the REHACARE 2010 also features an art exhibition. A showcase by Düsseldorf’s Studio 111 on the ground floor of Hall 7 presents impressive pieces by disabled artists.

Every autumn, the REHACARE INTERNATIONAL presents products and services from the following categories to the industry and trade sectors and more than 100 support and disabled people’s organisations: aids for daily living, household and nutrition, hygiene and personal care, mobility, communications, building and living, safety and monitoring systems, education, training and further education, workplace and career, training, physiotherapy and ergotherapy, orthopaedic aids, nursing and medical care, clothing, protective equipment, leisure, sports, games and travel.
